10 places to stay in and around Newport with stunning sea views

We all love staring out to sea, and north Pembrokeshire has one of the most beautifully rugged and wild coastlines you’re ever likely to come by. Vertical cliffs drop into valleys that house secret coves or large open expanses of sand, sea views backed by mountains, woodland and open countryside – whichever you prefer, there is a wealth of choice accommodation with superb sea views just waiting for your embrace.

We’ll start our journey at Fishguard and work our way back to Newport, enjoying some of the finest sea view accommodation along the way…

The view at the rear of Manor Town House in Fishguard

First up is Manor Town House in Fishguard, a pastel blue former Manor House which is now home to a stylishly chic hotel style bed and breakfast.

From the front, you’d be hard-pressed to think what this beautifully formed 3 storey Georgian building with sash windows and an understated portico has to hide, but step through its homely reception areas and out to the back, you’ll find the lovely garden and breakfast terrace with a jaw dropping view over the valley and harbour below, then onwards across the north Pembrokeshire coastline to Dinas Island and beyond. Being a storey or two higher than the terrace, four of the six bedrooms have even more spectacular sea views – truly rooms with a view!

Don’t just take our words for truth though – Helen and Chris (hosts) have won award after award for their hospitality, and you’ll find mentions of their accommodation (and the views) in all the weekend travel supplements too.

The view from Bryn Niwl on Dinas Mountain

Next up is a remote self-catering cottage with a huge sea view from the northern slopes of Dinas Mountain.

Bryn Niwl sits snuggled into the rugged hillside below the Garn Fawr outcrop – a prominent feature in the landscape when heading east from Fishguard towards Dinas Cross.

This stunning, perfectly boutique rural property can sleep 5 and a pet, and is hidden away at the end of a private track. Perch yourself down in the fully equipped modern kitchen and lose yourself in the huge view from Dinas Island to another outcrop (also named Garn Fawr) on Strumble Head in the distance. Outside is a raised patio area to enjoy alfresco meals whilst watching the local fishing boats and the Rosslare to Fishguard ferry going about their daily business.

Hen Ty Llaeth Holiday Cottage at Aberfforest

We’re heading beachside for our next sea view property – Hen Ty Llaeth can sleep 7 just a stone’s throw from Aberfforest Beach between Dinas Cross and Newport. This property enjoys stunning sea views (from nearly every room) over this quiet, remote beach and coastline.

An added bonus here is that unless you are staying at Aberfforest, the beach is accessible only by foot via the coastal path and some lesser known footpaths. There’s also a beautiful waterfall to discover and some gorgeously wild woodland in the valley behind the beach.

A trip across the bay to our next two properties, which are situated above Newport Sands Golf Links…

View across Newport Bay from Peg y Don

Peg y Don can sleep 6, whilst Abernyfer Beach House can accommodate 10 – both properties are pet friendly, and both also enjoy huge views over Newport Bay to Dinas Island. If a round of golf, a BBQ, and an evening lounge watching the sun setting into the Irish Sea are a must – either of these two properties will tick those boxes and more.

View of Newport Bay from Abernyfer Beach House

You can also walk from both to Newport’s largest beach – Newport Sands / Traeth Mawr, and the Pembrokeshire coastal path heads north to Ceibwr and Poppit, or south and then west to Newport, Cwm-yr-Eglwys and then onwards to Fishguard and beyond from Newport Sands too.

A quick jump across the Nevern Estuary to Carningli Mountain for our next properties…

A drone’s eye view of Newport and the Bay from Penfeidr Newydd

Penfeidr Newydd enjoys stunning sea, estuary and mountain views from the garden, whilst the house, which can sleep 4, is a snug, cosy hideaway situated high on the northern slopes of Carningli Mountain – There are also adjacent paddocks which you are welcome to use should you wish to bring up to 2 horses on holiday with you. Gated access onto Carningli means hours of trekking are right on the doorstep.

Drones eye view from Nat y Rhedyn

Next up is Nant y Rhedyn – a modern twist on an old house also high on the slopes of Carningli.

Nant y Rhedyn can sleep 10 and welcomes up to 2 pets. The property enjoys panoramic views over Newport bay and the north Pembrokeshire countryside, has mountain walks from the doorstep and is just half a mile or so from the centre of Newport. Inside you’ll discover fully modernised accommodation with throwbacks to the properties history and there’s even a separate annexe with 2 double bedrooms – one with spectacular sea views.

For our last three properties, we are at Parrog – the old harbour area of Newport.

Gorwel holiday cottage at Parrog Bach

Gorwel is a detached single storey property with three bedrooms, accommodating 6 people. Short of Gorwel’s western end, when the tide is in the rest of the cottage is surrounded by water, making it very difficult to not enjoy a sea view – from one side, a sea view with a sand dunes backdrop, and from the other a sea view with a mountain backdrop. There are two beaches practically next door too.

Craig y Mor seen here at low tide on Parrog Beach

Next are two adjacent properties – Craig y Mor and Glan y Werydd, both have lovely aspects being situated on the old quay wall overlooking Parrog beach, Newport Sands and the bay beyond.

Glan y Werydd shown on an incoming tide at Newport’s Parrog

Craig y Mor can sleep 10, and enjoys sea views from all the rooms to the front of the property, whilst Glan y Werydd which also enjoys sea views from all front facing rooms can sleep 8 and accepts 2 pets. Both have private quayside patio areas for watching the comings and goings at Parrog, and also have more secluded rear gardens to enjoy.
