Sleeping Giant on Carningli Mountain

Guarding the folk of Newport Pembrokeshire

One of only two sleeping giants known to exist in Wales, the Carningli giant lays on the hill side above Newport in Pembrokeshire.

Made up of three rocky outcrops, the main and largest being the head of the giant is known as Carn Ffoi and also plays host to the remains of an iron age hill fort/farm. Behind the giant (as viewed from Newport) are the remains of ancient field systems.

Today, the best views of the sleeping giant can be seen from Newport Sands beach or even better from above the giant on the Gwaun Valley road looking back towards Newport.
